Corus Iron

Corus Iron are one of the largest metal companies in the world and at their former British Steel site at Llanwern, Newport, South Wales, they produce steel from raw materials to be sold in a number of ways, e.g. cars, domestic appliances, food and drink cans, etc.

A Panorama system situated in the works main substation collects approximately 400 inputs from a Rochester MPAS 90 alarm system. The system monitors electrical failures within the high voltage distribution network that supplies electricity to wherever it is required across the 3.5 square mile site.

Each signal change is detected by the Rochester equipment and timestamped to a resolution of 1 millisecond. This data is transferred quickly and without loss of accuracy to Panorama, where it is used to trigger alarms, the time and date are detected by the Rochester equipment, giving a highly accurate record of plant changes, which is presented to the operator and stored by Panorama for management analysis.
