Panorama.PocketPC

"Panorama.PocketPC" allows access to your SCADA application from a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) / Pocket PC.

(available as an option for Panorama v8.0)

Main uses
Panorama.net is designed for "mobile" personnel having a need to have access to the process's industrial information whilst they are on the shop-floor or when they a working on a number of different sites.

Solution
It is sufficient to install Panorama.net on a dedicated Server PC equipped with Windows 2000 Server operating system and Internet Information Server (IIS). This Server is connected to one or more, single or redundant, data acquisition Servers. It enables some or all of the SCADA application to be available to Personal Digital Assistant.
The PDA must be a " PocketPC " type and must have a wireless connection of the type 802.11a/b/g (55, 11, 11-55 Mbits) or GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). In the first case, The Server is connected to the enterprise network using an Intranet and in the second case via the enterprise Extranet (Intranet).

After changing the resolution of the PDA/PocektPC (usually 320 x 240 pixels), it is possible to access the graphical views, the alarms; to handle them (acknowledge…); to display historical and real-time trend graphs. Protected by a password and commensurate with the operator's access level, it is also possible to control the outputs. Also an operator can physically go along to a machine and operate in "local mode", i.e. taking the control from the Control Room. Then he can directly operate the machine whilst in front of it.

Advantages
Thanks to PDAs being far more economic than a Laptop PC, maintenance personnel, production managers, and process operators can have access to the information that they need anytime, anywhere, no matter what they are doing. This method of working means that the team becomes more efficient and reactive, by not having to make unnecessary journeys back to the control room.
With the same equipment used for the SCADA, it is also possible to telephone, navigate using GPS/navigation, prepare reports, make calculations, and to manage their appointments and their address books.
